Coupon Codes 101

Nature of coupon codes

Your customers receive a coupon code from our system when they redeem or earn a reward via the *Loyalty Program / #Refer-a-Friend / Fan Builder.

To avoid abuse of coupon codes, all coupon codes issued by our app: 

  1. are unique and can be used for one time only.
  2. can only be used at the store where the customers obtain the coupon code from.

*[Bigcommerce] Store credits will be added to your customers’ store accounts directly when they redeem a store credit reward. There will be no coupon code.   

#Loyalty points will be added to your customers’ store accounts directly when they earned loyalty points from a successful referral. There will be no coupon code.

 

Creating coupon codes

Given that coupon codes are one-time only, you need to create new coupon codes from time to time to make sure that there are sufficient coupon codes for your customers!

[Bigcommerce] The coupon code creation process is completely automated.

At the time you launch our app or create a new reward for the loyalty program, 10 coupon codes will be created for each reward you set up. When the number of coupon code drops to 5, our system would start to generate batches of coupon codes from time to time to make sure that there will be coupon codes available for each reward. 

[Shopify] Since Shopify does not have the API required for automating coupon code creation yet, you would need to use our Coupon Bookmarklet to create coupon codes from time to time. Our system would send emails to remind you to create more coupon code when the number of available coupon codes for a particular reward drops to 5 or below.

Keeping track of coupon codes

You can see the number of available coupon codes for our different app on our app Admin Console:

Loyalty Program

When you go to the “Rewards Settings” tab under the Loyalty Program, you can see the number of coupon codes Available / Redeemed / Used for each rewards under "Reward Details"

 

Refer-a-Friend

You can see the number of coupon codes available at the top right corner of our app Dashboard.

 

Fan Builder

You can see the number of coupon codes available at the top right corner of our app Dashboard.

When you click the number of coupons, you will see a list of the actual coupon codes that are available to be sent out.

*[Bigcommerce] Instead of the create coupon code button, you would see the message “Automated Coupon Code Creation”. 

You can also keep track of the coupon codes that has been sent out by our apps:

Loyalty Program

  1. Go to the “Customers” tab of our app Admin Console
  2. Search for a customer and click his / her name to go to the Loyalty Program information page, you can see the coupon codes that had been redeemed or used by that customers from the 2nd table.

 

If you are using both Loyalty Program and Refer-a-Friend, you could also see the coupon code rewarded to the customer for successful referral.

Refer-a-Friend

You can see a list of customers’ friends who have signed-up for the mailing list on the Dashboard of the app and you can see the coupon codes issued to them on the 2nd column from the right.

Fan Builder

You can see a list of visitors who have liked / followed your store or submitted their email addresses on the Dashboard of the app and you can see the coupon codes issued to them on the 2nd column from the right.

 

Removing / disabling coupon code

Can I remove a coupon code via the app Admin Console?

At this time, merchant users cannot remove coupon codes that have been generated for our apps. You would need to contact us if you want to remove / disable certain coupon codes generated by our app.

What would happen if I remove a coupon code from my Shopify / Bigcommerce account? 

Both Shopify and Bigcommerce do not have the API for our app to remove the coupon code automatically after merchants remove / disable the coupon code from their Shopify / Bigcommerce account. Therefore, if the coupon code has not been sent out, it would still be in our system and may be sent out when a customer redeem / earn a reward.

When the customer applies the disabled / removed coupon code, s/he would not be able to enjoy the reward.

If you have accidentally removed / disabled some coupon codes which have not been sent out, please email us so that we can remove them from our system before they are sent out.

On the other hand, if you don’t want your customers to enjoy a reward by applying a coupon code they have already redeemed / received:

  1. please look for the relevant coupon code from our app dashboard (see above); and
  2. disable / remove that coupon code from your Shopify Admin Console or Bigcommerce Control Panel.

 

Applying multiple coupon codes at one time

At this time, both Shopify and Bigcommerce only allow your customers to apply one coupon code at the checkout.
